Geography of Nepal
My country Nepal is a small country situated at the foothills of the Himalayas. It is a buffer (surrounded by two big countries) state sandwiched by China from the North and India from the south. It is generally divided into three geographical regions: mountain region, hilly region and Terai region. Politically, it is divided into seven provinces under the central government in Kathmandu, the capital city. It covers only 0.3% of the land of Asia and 0.03% of the whole world. It is small in size but holds the world in itself.
Caste, Religion and Language of Nepal
Nepal is a multi-ethnic, multi-lingual and multi-religious country. People of 123 castes,127 languages and 9 religions live in Nepal. The majority of people in Nepal follow Hinduism as a major religion. The rest of them follow Islamism, Christianity and Buddhism. People in Nepal follow various castes like Brahmin, Chettri, Gurung, Newari, etc. Despite these differences, there is “Unity in Diversity”. People do not fight with each other in the name of religion, caste or language. When one gets hurt then the others feel the pain. This is the beauty of Nepal.
Culture of Nepal
Nepal is rich in culture. People of various castes, religions, languages and geography have their own unique culture. They perform various cultural dances like Ghatu, Maruni, Deuda, Lakhe and many more. It is also rich in art and architecture. The capital city, Kathmandu has many temples which are the masterpiece of art and architecture.
Identity and Pride of Nepal
Nepal has the most unique flag in the world combining two triangles. The border of the Nepali flag is blue which resembles peace and the bright red colour in the flag resembles the bravery of the Nepali people. The sun and moon in the flag symbolize that Nepal will exist till the sun and moon exist in the universe.
Nepal is also known as the country of high hills and mountains. There are only 14 mountains in the world above 8000m among which 8 of them lie in Nepal. Mt.Everest, the highest peak of the world measuring 8848m also lies here. It is our identity and pride in the world. Gautam Buddha, the light of Asia as well as the founder of Buddhism was also born here.
Economy of Nepal
Nepal is an agricultural country. More than half of the population of Nepal depend on agriculture. Others are engaged in trade, industry, business, government and private sectors. Many are unemployed and some are engaged in foreign employment. Nepal is an interdependent country. Many of its goods or necessities are imported either from India or China. Nepal also exports very few items like carpets, beverages, textiles, tea, and plastic. Nepal’s economy also depends on tourism. Tourism is well flourished in Nepal. But due to the spread of Coronavirus, the tourism sector has been badly hit. Nepal had launched Visit Nepal: 2020 aiming to bring more than 2millions tourists in a year but failed due to pandemic. Its economy has been going down due to pandemics like in other countries.
