Summary of Class 10 Nepali Chapter-7 Pratyagaman katha

Pratyagaman Katha is a social story relevant to Nepalese society. Guru Prasad Mainali is the author and writer of Pratyagaman Katha. This story is a part of the novel “Naso”, the one and only yet great literary contribution given by Guruprasad Mainali in Nepali literature. Pratyagaman in Nepali means “to return”.

Pratyagaman katha is a typical story that depicts the incident that happens in Nepali families and society. The main characters of Pratyagaman Katha are: Ramu, Shobha and Nirmal Chand. Ramu and Nirmal Chand are stepbrothers. Their parents died at an early age and Nirmal Chand has been taking care of his younger brother from an early age. Shobha is the wife of Nirmal Chanda.

Shobha and Ramu also had their own children but both of them took care of Ramu no less than their own child. They gave him education and fulfilled all his basic needs.

Later, Ramu topped in his SLC exam. Due to this achievement, he got the proposal of marriage from a rich family. He married a girl from a rich family. Though the girl was rich, she did not have the good characters that a daughter in law should have. She used to complain about Shobha in the neighbourhood.

By her bad activities, she brought a turn off in the family. Ramu separated from his parents like brother and sister in law falling in the trap of his wife. He lived in a separate house from them not even contacting them. He gave birth to a child. He conducted rituals for the baby but neither called his brother nor their child.

One day, Ramu got very ill. He did not get proper care from her wife which lead him to death bed. He asked his wife to call his sister in law. Shobha took good care of him and built his health. Ramu got completely fine due to the proper care given by Shova. Then he regrets it and returned home. He said sorry to his brother and sister in law. We should learn a lesson that relation between different level of people cannot sustain long and can bring turn off in the family. Also, we learnt not to leave our own family and relatives falling into the trap of others.
